TCU is putting a new spin on a gameday staple with a hot dog creation that has quickly sparked debate among fans.
The Horned Frogs announced Wednesday they are now serving a hot dog stuffed with mozzarella cheese, dipped in ube batter, fried in panko, dusted with ube powder and drizzled with a sweet-and-spicy honey.

The unconventional take on the ballpark classic drew mixed reactions on social media, with some praising the creativity and others questioning the need to alter what many consider a gameday tradition.
TCU has leaned into unique gameday food offerings, but the purple-hued ube twist on an American hot dog appears to be one of its boldest experiments yet.
While NIL and on-field performance seem to be what people talk about, their is a growing battle across the Power Five about who has the best in-game food offerings. Coastal Carolina University has made headlines in 2025 by becoming the first FBS school to offer complimentary food to ticketed fans at home football games.
Known as the "CCU Kickoff Meal Deal," this initiative allows every fan with a paid ticket to select up to four items per concession stand visit, with no restriction on the number of trips per game. The free menu includes hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, and fountain drinks—classic stadium favorites designed for maximum appeal and convenience.
Alcoholic beverages, specialty items, and food from outside vendors are not included, but fans can repeatedly return to concession stands throughout the game, simply scanning each visit via the athletic department’s mobile app.
