Slot rules five players out of Carabao Cup clash with Southampton following win over Everton

Arne Slot says Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate will not play in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash with Southampton on Tuesday.

“I can tell you now, you won’t be seeing them on Tuesday,” he said. “If that’s any help for Southampton.”

Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike got the goals for Liverpool as they continued their perfect start to the season and Slot lauded some of the football his side played in the win.

He admits the busy schedule of late caught up with his side in the second half, however.

“First half, it was a joy to watch,” he said. “Although we got a little bit of a warning just before half-time, when maybe they had their first shot on target, I’m not sure.

“And second half, you could see, that’s always the difficult thing of conceding the 2-1 f you’re already 2-0 up, then you’re a bit in doubt maybe.

“Normally we’re not in doubt, normally we always just keep on attacking. But yeah, I’ve said enough about our schedule now.”
