Sky’s top transfer reporter says Chelsea backup was a target for “biggest clubs in England”

Kaveh Solhekol has taken to writing long screeds on Twitter rather than publishing stories on the Sky Sports website. It’s an annoying habit – it makes them hard to read.

His latest one is all about Chelsea and the fact they apparently aren’t going to sign a centre back or goalie in January. It reads like a brief delivered direct from a club source.

Very matter of fact, and repeating some well known things as though they’re new information.

Chelsea got Jorgensen bids

The first chunk of a very long Tweet. The first chunk of a very long Tweet.

After all that, the most interesting thing was a snippet about our backup goalkeeper:

“Filipe Jorgensen is still also highly rated at the club and he was a transfer target for some of the biggest clubs in England in the summer.”

That’s just bizarre – we seriously doubt anyone “highly rates” Jorgensen at this point. He’s had a fair number of games for us and has never really impressed.

He definitely has the potential to get a lot better than he currently is with age and practice. But he doesn’t look to have a particularly high ceiling. He’s likely to just get a handful of games this season, and we’re not sure at all what his future would be.

Mystery club wanted glovesman

We can imagine a West Ham or someone taking him on loan – but “some of the biggest clubs in England”? That seems unlikely. Perhaps it’s a bit of a fudge because Man U were curious about him as a part exchange in the Alejandro Garnacho deal? That’s the only answer we can come up with

In any case, he’s behind Robert Sanchez and also behind Mike Penders at this point in terms of where Chelsea fans are thinking. We would imagine the sporting directors are moving in the same direction, regardless of the briefs they release.
