Should I drop Kaleb Johnson in fantasy? Outlook for Steelers' rookie RB takes shape in crowded depth chart

Kaleb Johnson's NFL debut couldn't have been much worse.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' rookie running back, who was a star at Iowa, played two snaps, both just after halftime.

Some had expected him to lead the backfield, so to see him buried behind Jaylen Warren and even Kenneth Gainwell was quite the surprise.

And now the question is this: How long can you hold him in fantasy football?

Should I drop Kaleb Johnson in fantasy football?

In small leagues, those with eight or ten teams, the answer is probably yes.

"After all, he played two total offensive snaps, both in the third quarter," writes ESPN's Liz Loza. "Between uneven play throughout training camp, struggles in pass protection and a fumble last Sunday, he's not likely to be released from (OC Arthur) Smith's doghouse anytime soon."

In deeper leagues, it's probably fair to hold Johnson for one more week to assess if this backfield will really look like this going forward.

Obviously, if you're in a keeper or dynasty league, don't drop Johnson at this point.

Hopefully you didn't draft Johnson in a spot where you're counting on him to start for you. If that's the case, you ought to check if Quinshon Judkins is available as he ramps up to make his debut for Cleveland. Other names who appear closer to a major role than Johnson are guys like Rachaad White and Cam Skattebo.

Johnson has talent, but if he doesn't have opportunity, it won't matter.
