Save big on all the stuff you're going to buy anyway while these essentials are on sale for Prime

Amazon Prime Day is a great excuse/opportunity to splurge on the big-ticket buys you've been eyeing. But if you ask me, it's even better to stock up on the things you need and call it a deal ... I mean day. I fall more into the latter category — and that's why I've searched high and low to find the best Prime Day markdowns on cleaning products, household staples, hygiene basics and other everyday essentials.

Toilet paper and batteries aren't as exciting as, say, the new AirPods Pro (which are also on sale right now!), but I maintain that there's something even more rewarding about saving on the stuff you'd buy anyway. That being said, let's get one thing straight: These Prime Day deals aren't exactly doorbusters, but I compared these prices to other big-box retailers' and Amazon's reign supreme.

Highlights include a four-pack of Dawn dish spray for just $12 (that's $3 a bottle) and 48 batteries for a mere $14. That's not to mention Banana Boat sunscreen for nearly half off ('tis the season!) or Clorox wipes at the lowest price we've seen in months.

Nobody — and I mean, nobody — likes to throw away their money, but that's essentially what you're doing each time you buy a new box of trash bags. It's one of life's hard truths. Anyway, I digress: If you have to buy them (and you do), you might as well try to cut corners where you can.

You'll never regret having extra batteries around, especially when they're the same ones over 51,000 Amazon shoppers swear by. Grab them while they're over 30% off.

Most people wouldn't think to re-up their stash until they're dangerously low (or worse, find themselves with an empty roll and no backup), so why not grab a pack or two for peace of mind? Over 13,500 shoppers gave this plush TP their stamp of approval, plus it's down to the lowest price I've seen in months.

ICYMI: Researchers say you should replace your kitchen sponge every week or two. I know, I know, that's a pretty tall order, but you can blame science.

If you're going to hop aboard the weekly or biweekly sponge-replacement train, then go for this 24-pack that'll last you about six months. Each sponge comes to just 40 cents, which is considerably less than the name brands (you know the ones).

You don't give your battery stash much thought until you need to power something up. And if you're one of the rare few who doesn't have an overflowing collection, then don't pass up this Prime Day deal. Get 48 batteries (half AA, the other half AAA) for $14 — that means each battery costs a little more than a quarter!

Don't stop with your washing machine: Active also makes dishwasher and disposal cleaner tablets, which are also marked down for Prime.

This isn't just any ol' dish soap. Nope, Dawn claims this stuff packs the power of an overnight soak without the waiting time. It tackles grease and other common messes with ease, so you can also use it to de-gunk grill grates, clean high-touch kitchen surfaces and remove stains from clothes.

Single-use wipes, while convenient, aren't exactly winning any sustainability awards. Well, except for these bad boys, which are compostable since they're made out of plant-based fibers. But that's not all: They're formulated without any dyes, bleach or ammonia, so they're good for your home and the people in it, too.

Tide Pods really changed the game — no measuring or mess, but the same cleaning power. The Free & Gentle line is a step above for those who have sensitive skin since there aren't any dyes, perfumes or irritating residues.

Sure, there's that hot, hip, eye-catching thing that everyone's buying, coveting, flexing on. But getting all fancy and aspirational won't do you any good if you can't launder your clothes or clean your house. (Amazon)
