Russia launched a fresh wave of large-scale missile and drone strikes across Ukraine overnight, local media reported on Sunday.
The Kyiv Independent said that air raid sirens sounded across the country, including in western regions far from the front lines.
Late on Saturday, the Ukrainian air force had already warned of Russian bombers and drones targeting multiple areas.
Explosions were reported in Zaporizhzhya, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and the Cherkasy region, among others.
Explosions were also heard in Kiev during the night, news agency RBK-Ukraine reported.
The governor of Cherkasy initially reported at least three injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure, as cited by The Kyiv Independent. Other regions also reported damage from the strikes.
The operational command of the Polish Armed Forces, cited by the paper, said that in response to the attacks in western Ukraine — which borders Poland — fighter jets were scrambled and ground-based air defences were activated.
