Real Madrid retain total confidence in 33-year-old veteran, have renewed contract until 2027

Since his arrival from Chelsea in 2018, Thibaut Courtois has remained a permanent fixture in goal at Real Madrid.

While he did go through some turbulence early on his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Belgian international has since developed into one of the team’s most consistent and reliable players, coming up clutch on big occasions time and again.

Real Madrid retain full confidence in Courtois

As such, AS reports that Real Madrid retain total confidence in Courtois, which is indicated by the fact that the club have already tied him down to a new contract until 2027.

Though unannounced publicly, just as with Ferland Mendy, who also extended to 2027 without an official statement, the Belgian has already signed on until 2027.

Courtois’ original deal ran until 2026, but Real Madrid have added an extra year to keep him at the club for one more season at least.

Inside the club, there is unanimous conviction that extending his deal was the right call, given how solid he has been between the sticks once again in the ongoing campaign.

Solid yet again

So far this season, Real Madrid have faced 17 shots on target, and Courtois has produced 14 saves and conceded three goals.

One was a penalty (vs Real Sociedad), another an unstoppable header (vs Mallorca). The only blemish came against Marseille, when he went to ground a fraction too early.

Courtois is hovering at an 83% save rate, closing in on the 85% mark, while facing an average of 3.4 shots per game.

At 33, Courtois shows no signs of slowing down. he has racked up 293 appearances for Madrid and is within reach of becoming the club’s third-most-capped goalkeeper, who currently happens to be Miguel Ángel with 346 games behind, Paco Buyo (454), and Iker Casillas (725).
