Real Madrid face tense situation with superstar as renewal talks broke down after Club World Cup

Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. finds himself in unfamiliar waters at the start of the new season, having had to make do with being dropped from the starting lineup for two games by manager Xabi Alonso.

Once a permanent fixture in the team under Carlo Ancelotti, the 24-year-old finds himself competing with Rodrygo Goes for the spot on the left flank.

All this is playing out while Real Madrid and the player have been trying to agree on a new contract in the background for months.

Agreement was close but talks broke down

Now, according to AS, the agreement between Vinicius and Real Madrid was close to being finalised financially, with positions almost aligned, but everything collapsed during the last meeting in Madrid after the FIFA Club World Cup.

In the final meeting in Madrid, the 24-year-old attacker is understood to have lowered his initial salary demands considerably, and an agreement seemed imminent, but everything hit a standstill and talks broke down.

Now both parties face a tense situation. Vinicius is clear that he wants to continue winning titles with Real Madrid and is willing to renew, but with a contract until 2027, he is in a strong position.

The risk of him leaving on a free transfer cannot be ignored. The club, for its part, appears to be delaying, perhaps because Alonso does not see him as indispensable as Ancelotti did, and prefer to wait and see how this season develops.

Concerns over his situation

Although he has accepted from the outset his new status following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, the Brazilian is concerned about what has happened at the start of this season.

This is despite the fact that he has complied with Alonso’s demands, sacrificing part of his attacking game to contribute more defensively.

Although surprised by his current situation, Vinícius does not believe the club is pushing him towards an exit.

The next two to three months will be decisive in determining the future of the Vinicius case. If his situation worsens, a departure in the January transfer window cannot be ruled out.

It must be remembered that he has already reached the summit at Real Madrid, winning every title twice and being recognised as the world’s best player.
