Everton have the most attack minded team in years, facing their rivals who have a wealth of striker options……..so a nil-nil is nailed on.

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot speaking to TNT Sports: "With all the quality that we have, we have to understand that one moment changes the momentum of the game, and Everton plays for that moment. They are quite direct, so if one of us doesn't run back or isn't ready for the duel, they are quite fast in front of our goal.

"Maybe they change that style today but normally long throw ins and every free kick last season they brought the ball in to the box. They constantly bring it into your 18 yard box. That is the main thing we have to do today, be ready for them bringing the ball into the box.

"Ready for a winner yes. It doesn't matter to me when we score it as long as we score it."

  3. Are Liverpool more vulnerable this season?published at 12:04 BST

For all of Liverpool's domination of this fixture on home soil, derbies on Merseyside tend to be tight, wherever they're played.

On the past eight occasions that Everton and Moyes have visited their neighbours, there have been four draws, and three games settled by a single goal.

There is also a sense that despite Liverpool's formidable firepower, they are more vulnerable than in recent seasons.

The Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday was the third time this season the Reds have let a two-goal lead slip. Again they found a winner, but the defensive fragility will give encouragement to opponents.

While Slot's men sit top of the Premier League table, they have been reliant on late strikes, with their past five games in all competitions won by goals coming after the 82nd minute.

Liverpool's expensive bench will get the attention and rightly so but it's been a long time since Everton have had 3 or 4 players on the bench who could come on and have an impact. There are goals and creativity there too.

  7. 'I'd like to win a few more derbies here'published at 11:58 BST

    Liverpool v Everton (12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes speaking to TNT Sports: "All derbies, any rivalry from a major city is huge. I come from the big city of Glagow where Celtic against Rangers is huge. I'm in Merseyside now and would like to win a few more here, so let's hope that starts today.

"I have got a lot of belief that the players are in a good position and good form. Hopefully we can show it."

On his 28th Merseyside derby: "Most of the time over my career I've had to fight against Liverpool who've spent much more and had a lot more going for them than we have. My biggest memories here was finishing above them a couple of times before I left [after his first tenure]."

On Mykolenko's return and Garner moving back to midfield: "It's great to have him back. He's not fully fit yet, we could probably do with getting a few more games under his belt but hopefully he will be able to give us a certain amount of minutes in the game, and we'll see how that goes.

"Jimmy [Garner] has become really versatile for us and has done well wherever he's played. he is obviously a midfield player by trade but he has shown that he can play at full-back if required."

Will David Moyes have more luck at Anfield today?

He has failed in all of his 22 attempts, with a number of clubs, to win a game at Liverpool's home ground.

With Everton, he's lost six of his 13 games in charge.

Mykolenko is an important returning player for Everton. His overlapping runs allow Grealish to come inside, and it means Garner can play in midfield instead of deputising at left back. I am never confident of a win against Liverpool, but I think we'll see some good football from Everton today.

I have been an Everton fan all my life and it has been 30 plus years since we had optimism in a Merseyside Derby at Anfield and I feel we can get something from this game

Isak and Wirtz will be Liverpool's 'finishers' today, being gravy on the feast already served up by the starting 11.

Over £400 million worth of subs on the bench today! Good call by Slot for the midfield against Everton.

The dread and anxiety that occupies an Evertonian's mind during derby week is all too familiar and seemingly never subsides from season to season.

So often, we take the still relatively short trip in hope rather than expectation, with the apparent curse that encases our once home still very much alive.

With the manager's appalling record at Anfield - combined with the club's - you would be forgiven for thinking this weekend's renewal of rivalries will go the same way as so many others in recent times.

However, this Everton feels far removed from many of those sides that have gone before.

It may simply be misplaced enthusiasm and early-season vigour, but indications point to an Everton side that carries serious attacking threat, with a sprinkle of genius thrown in for good measure.

Fans are not getting carried away - and the hype train certainly has not left the station - but there is a restored belief among fans that we are a club moving in the right direction.

Whether it will be enough on Saturday remains to be seen, but when fans and players are aligned, magical things can happen.

Good judgment call from Slot on the midfield. We need Szoboszlai in for the physical battle.

    Tim, Bristol

Slot has reverted to the reliable midfield three of last season. I do fancy Wirtz and Isak to make a big second half impact off of the bench.

  19. Team news - Bradley comes in for Liverpool, Mykolenko for Evertonpublished at 11:20 BST

    Liverpool v Everton (15:00 BST)

Arne Slot has made one change to the Liverpool side who beat Burnley 1-0 on Sunday.

Conor Bradley comes in at right-back and Florian Wirtz drops to the bench.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gakpo, Salah, Ekitike.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Endo, Wirtz, Isak, Jones, Robertson, Frimpong, Ngumoha.

    Liverpool XI

Like Arne Slot, David Moyes has also made one change to his Everton side who drew 0-0 with Aston Villa at the weekend.

Tim Iroegbunam drops to the bench in place of Vitalii Mykolenko.

Everton XI: Pickford, O'Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko, Gueye, Garner, Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish, Beto.

Subs: Travers, Patterson, McNeil, Barry, Dibling, Coleman, Alcaraz, Aznou, Iroegbunam.

  20. Isak and Wirtz on benchpublished at 11:19 BST

    Liverpool v Everton (12:30 BST)

No Alexander Isak in the starting line-up, and more surprisingly perhaps, no Florian Wirtz either.

Arne Slot reverts back to his trusted midfield trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai.

So the club's two biggest transfers are sat on the bench - all £241m of them.
