‘Plays On Eggshells’ – Former Inter Milan Defender Slams Midfielder For Disappointing Start To The Season

Former Inter Milan defender Francesco Colonnese has offered a harsh assessment of Piotr Zielinski so far this season.

The Polish midfielder joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last summer but he has yet to make a significant impact in black and blue.

Zielinski was expected to bring creativity and experience to Inter’s midfield, but his displays have been below par.

The former Napoli man has struggled to replicate the quality and consistency that once made him a standout in Serie A.

Speaking to Tuttosport, with quotes via FCInter1908, Colonnese was blunt in his criticism:

“He plays on eggshells – unfortunately, he’s been a disappointment so far.

The 31-year-old has played just 121 minutes across 5 appearances this season.

Utilised primarily as a substitute, the Pole has struggled to find his rhythm.

“There were great expectations when he was signed but after leaving Napoli he hasn’t repeated the brilliant performances from his seasons there.”

Chivu has continued to rotate his midfield options but Zielinski’s inconsistency leaves his long-term role uncertain.

Currently, the Romanian coach has a wealth of options in the middle of the park.

Summer signings Andy Diouf and Petar Sucic add to the experienced likes of Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
