Phillies' Kyle Schwarber Addresses Uncertain MLB Future Before All-Star Game

Jul 15, 2025 2:53 PM EDT

Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber is in his 11th major-league season and his fourth as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Schwarber originally debuted for the Chicago Cubs in 2015, spending six seasons with the franchise—highlighted by a World Series championship in 2016.

After brief stints with the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox, the Phillies signed Schwarber to a four-year, $79 million contract before the 2022 season. He took off immediately in his first year in Philadelphia, leading the National League with 46 home runs and earning a Silver Slugger award.

Schwarber has also been a postseason hero for Philadelphia. He has compiled 26 hits, 12 home runs, 17 RBIs and 24 runs scored in just 34 playoff games for the Phillies.

In 2025, Schwarber was selected to his third All-Star Game and his second with the Phillies.

Asked about his future in the MLB—with this season marking the final year of the contract he signed four years ago—Schwarber hinted at staying in Philadelphia.

“Obviously there’s interest on my side and I know that there’s going to be interest on their side. We’re going to see where that takes us,” he said via NBC Sports Philadelphia.

In his age-32 season, Schwarber has not slowed down. Across 96 games, he is batting .247 with a .923 OPS, 30 home runs and 69 RBIs.

He has been the offense’s driving force and one of the biggest reasons the Phillies stand alone at first place in the NL East entering the All-Star Break. If Schwarber opts to take his talents elsewhere this offseason, Philadelphia would face a significant hole in its lineup.
