Official: Real Madrid announce latest big-money signing

La Liga giants Real Madrid have early this week announced a fresh addition to the club’s defensive ranks.

The player to have put pen to paper on terms with Los Blancos? Álvaro Carreras.

The name of defender Carreras has of course taken its place centre stage in the media chatter surrrounding Real Madrid throughout the summer to date.

This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old had been identified as a leading transfer target on the part of Los Blancos.

Amid efforts to add to the left-back options at the disposal of Xabi Alonso, Carreras was quickly earmarked as the priority option.

And as alluded to above, following weeks of drawn out negotiations with Benfica, Real Madrid have finally secured their man.

As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the capital outfit:

‘Real Madrid C.F. and Sport Lisboa e Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Álvaro Carreras, who will be under contract with our club for the next six seasons, until 30 June 2031.’
