No. 16 Texas A&M scores with 13 seconds left to beat No. 8 Notre Dame 41-40

No. 16 Texas A&M shocked No. 8 Notre Dame with a fourth-down TD pass from Marcel Reed to Nate Boerkircher with 13 seconds to go for a 41-40 win in South Bend.

The TD pass came on the Aggies’ 13th play of a 74-yard drive that took 2 minutes and 40 seconds. The Irish had gone up 40-34 with less than 3 minutes to go on a TD run by star RB Jeremiyah Love, but the lead was only six and not seven after backup QB Tyler Buchner bobbled the snap on the extra point.

That left an opening for Texas A&M and the Aggies thought they took it right away on the kickoff by returning it for a TD. However, the Aggies were called for holding on the play and it might have ultimately worked out to their advantage as Boerkircher found himself in single coverage as Reed moved to his left.

Boerkircher’s TD capped a drive that appeared to stall out multiple times. After getting to the Notre Dame 10-yard line, Texas A&M got backed up to the 20 with consecutive false start penalties. But a holding call on Notre Dame put the ball back to the 10 with 39 seconds to go before the Aggies capitalized on their last chance for a TD.
