A newly released video has revealed how a baseball fan went over the railing and fell more than 20 feet during an MLB game last week.

Kavan Markwood, 20, was in critical condition after he toppled over a three-foot-high bar from his front-row seat in the right field bleachers over Clemente Wall at PNC Park on Wednesday, April 30.

In the video, Markwood is seen shirtless and cheering a Pirates’ go-ahead double in the seventh inning when he loses his balance.

As the former college football player jumps in celebration of Andrew McCutchen’s hit, he pitches forward over the railing and gravity takes over, resulting in his fall onto the warning track below.

Players looked on and knelt as Markwood was rushed off the field on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

In the week since his accident, the Pennsylvania man’s friends and family have been encouraged about his recovery — one which his girlfriend’s mother called “nothing short of miraculous.”

“Kav took his first steps today!,” Jennifer Phillips, the mother of Markwood’s girlfriend Alonna Phillips, wrote on his GoFundMe on Monday, May 5. “It’s a slow, slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits.”

Jennifer Phillips also revealed the extent of Markwood’s injuries, writing that he suffered a broken neck and clavicle in the incident.

“He still has a long way to go … there are plenty of obstacles ahead,” Phillips wrote. “But he’s showing real strength, and we’re staying hopeful for a smooth recovery. This will also require plenty of rest and following instructions from the great doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital.”
