Dallas Mavericks rookie forward Cooper Flagg, this year's no-brainer No. 1 draft pick out of Duke, will make his technical NBA debut on Thursday night at Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Center against Bronny James' Los Angeles Lakers, as part of Summer League.

Flagg's arrival has been the talk of Summer League. The 6-foot-8 Wooden Award winner, 18, will be joined on Dallas' offseason roster by two-way rookie point guard Ryan Nembhard and two-way shooting guard Miles Kelly, 2024-25 Mavericks rookie, and 7-foot-5 Texas Legends center Jamarion Sharp.
At 1-1, the Summer League Lakers have enjoyed an active Summer League run already.
In a 103-86 decimation over the Miami Heat on Sunday night, James scored an efficient 10 points on 3-of-7 field goal shooting (2-of-5 from deep) and 2-of-2 free throw shooting, two rebounds, and one steal in just 11 minutes of action.
Former Lakers two-way player Cole Swider led L.A. with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field (2-of-5 from deep) and 4-of-5 shooting from the charity stripe, three rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Lakers first round pick Dalton Knecht, perhaps in an ominous sign, scored four points on 2-of-7 shooting from the floor in 22 minutes per.
The highlight of the night, of course, was this emphatic Bronny James steal-and-dunk sequence, that reminded many on the internet of another high-flying James.

Next up for the Mavericks, Flagg and co. will face off against the No. 2 pick in last month's draft, former Rutgers guard Dylan Harper, in a July 12 clash with the San Antonio Spurs at 3 p.m. CT via ESPN. No. 14 pick Carter Bryant out of Arizona will also be plying his trade for San Antonio.
The third matchup will see Dallas do battle with Flagg's former Duke teammate, sharpshooting swingman Kon Knueppel (the No. 4 pick this year), and his ex-Montverde Academy prep school colleague Liam McNeely out of Gonzaga. The action will be broadcast on NBA TV at 5:30 p.m. CT.
Dallas will wrap up its four-game Summer League stint against the Philadelphia 76ers, led by No. 3 pick VJ Edgecombe out of Baylor. Second round selection Johni Broome out of Auburn, another Naismith Player of the Year contender along with Flagg (Flagg won), is the other key Philadelphia rookie. Their meeting will tip off at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN July 16.
