Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has lamented costly defensive errors in their 3-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday.

The Soweto giants suffered their first defeat of the 2025/26 season, falling to a Bradley Grobler brace and a Thabang Monare strike, while Flavio Silva netted for Amakhosi.

While Babina Noko maintained their unbeaten streak and ascended to the top of the table, Chiefs remain in third place with 13 points after six league outings.

The Tunisian mentor attributed the defeat to costly errors at the back, making an honest admission that his defense didn’t turn up against the Limpopo club.

“Unfortunately, today [Tuesday] we were not good defensively. The opponent posed a lot of issues on transitions and long balls, and we made a lot of mistakes that led to goals. It’s mistakes that we shouldn’t be making, it’s mistakes that we didn’t make in the games before,” said Nabi.

“I don’t want to minimize the homework of the opponent, but it’s mistakes that could have been avoided that led to goals especially in the long balls. The first goal is two players going for the same ball and after the flick there is no cover.

“The second goal we had the ball, and we gave it away in a very critical area. The third goal is a long ball, it’s a flick, we have to acknowledge the intelligence of Grobler as well. But it’s mistakes we believe we could have avoided because we knew we were going to play against a team that uses long balls.

Meanwhile, Nabi went on to address the absence of newly signed Ethan Chislett and Nkanyiso Shinga, who were both lured from abroad.

“It’s true that they are part of the squad and we have a lot of players. When their turn comes to play, they will play,” he explained.
