Monday Dots: Early Apple Harvest Returns

Happy Monday Dawg fans, and welcome to today’s Dots.

The Dawgs were off this weekend, and looking forward to the 2nd September Apple Cup of the Big Ten era

The Huskies have some payback for the Cougs after last season’s winnable game ended in an L for the Dawgs. As I left Lumen Field that day - surrounded by WSU fans celebrating and chanting R-rated chants - I wondered just how long the Apple Cup tradition would endure…

WSU had five turnovers in the first half against North Texas on Saturday, and was on the wrong side of the Mean Green’s biggest FBS win since 2011: 59-10. The Cougs didn’t score a TD until the 2-minute warning of the 4th quarter. While I hardly expect the Cougs to repeat such a putrid display in Pullman this Saturday, their chances of upsetting the Huskies do appear thin.

  • Our Editor Emeritus Max Vrooman shared the news that WSU voted last week to expand alcohol sales inside Martin Stadium (CougCenter). “The approval comes just in time for WSU’s most anticipated home game of the year, when they welcome in the Washington Huskies for the Apple Cup next Saturday.” When I first heard this, about a dozen jokes popped into my head,, But in all seriousness. Guys… do not give the night off to any EMTs within a hundred-mile radius of Pullman.
  • After an awful 0-3 start, a coaching hire that had me scratching my head from the start has been axed. “UCLA fires coach DeShaun Foster after Bruins start 0-3”. The Huskies play at the Rose Bowl in November.

I love a good comeback story, and they don’t get much better than Ryan Leaf’s. AND since it’s Apple Cup week…

Go Dawgs!!
