Worcester: W, 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Abraham Toro broke open this game against the Red Wings (Nationals AAA) in its early stages with a 423-foot, three-run shot to score Mikey Romero and Kristian Campbell. Romero would then add to that early lead in the second with a double to bring in Tyler McDonough and make it 4-0. Not enough action from Romero? Well… you’re in luck. He would add in another RBI on a sac fly as part of the WooSox’s two straight innings of adding some insurance runs, boosting the score to 6-2 in Worcester’s favor.

Turns out, they’d need the insurance. Isaiah Campbell left the door ajar before falling into it to close it, allowing three hits on four runs in the ninth. With a bullpen like that, the WooSox would have had a tough chance against Rochester, but thankfully the rotation continues to pitch very well. On Tuesday, it was again Shane Drohan, who did allow a ball out of the park but otherwise allowed just four more hits on two runs and struck out six. His ERA increases to a very serviceable 2.25. If Drohan, who does have a lengthy injury history but who has pitched well for most of his career, does not get protected by being added to the 40 man roster, expect some eyes on him in the Rule 5 draft, where he was already selected by the White Sox two years ago. Ultimately, with so many pitching prospects coming through the system, it’s up to the Red Sox to decide if it’s worth letting the 26-year-old hit those waters.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
