WHITEFISH — Three is the lucky number Saturday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Andrew Medley claimed his third title in the mens open championship at the 89th annual 4th of July Tournament, defeating Missoula’s Kade McDonough after three playoff holes.
Medley adds the 2025 trophy to his victories in 2012 and 2016.
Medley forced the playoff after birdies on holes 17 and 18 to tie with McDonough at one-under par.
In the playoff both golfers birdied the first hole and scored a par on the second. Medley claimed the title with a par on the third hole.
McDonough led after 18 and 36 holes, shooting an opening round 68, followed by a second round 69.
Behind the front two, Davis Johnson, Brian Hanson and Christian Clark finished tied for third, one-shot behind.
Johnson rebounded after shooting an opening round 81. He closed the tournament with a 66 in round two and a 67 in the final round.
Hanson closed strong with a five-under par round of 66 Saturday.
Justin Dorr came home in sixth at one-over par for the tournament. He closed with an even par 71.
Defending champion Cory Mehl finished seventh.
In the senior division, Whitefish’s Brad Grattan claimed his third consecutive title.
Grattan finished the tournament 12-under par and shot a 71 for his final round.
A second round 61 allowed Grattan to cruise home for an 11-shot victory in the senior division over Missoula’s Bob Hasquet. Libby’s Joe Cielak rounded out the top three, 16 shots behind Grattan.
In the womens championship, Raina Ports went back-to-back, shooting a 216 total.
Ports’ final round three-under par 69 gave her a five-shot victory over Hannah Ports who closed with a 73. Lauren Greeny finished third, eight shots behind. Missoula’s Anna Stensrud and Kalispell’s Stella Claridge rounded out the top five.
