Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has requested the signing of Lorenzo Insigne in his meeting with the club’s hierarchy.
The Background
The two men enjoyed a prosperous collaboration during their time together at Napoli between 2015 and 2018. The winger spent the last three years at Toronto FC, but has now rescinded his contract with the MLS club and made his way back to Italy, as he looks forward to resuming his career in Serie A.
Lazio Following Lorenzo Insigne
Despite Lazio’s transfer ban, the Italian press has been heavily linking the 34-year-old with the capital side. The player himself fueled the rumors while expressing his desire to work with Sarri once again in the future.

According to Il Messaggero, Sarri enquired about the situation in his latest meeting with Lazio president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani. As the newspaper explains, the three men cleared the air, with the club officials swearing they didn’t know about the transfer ban when they brought the manager back to the club.
Sarri Keen to Reunite with Insigne
For his part, the former Napoli and Chelsea boss reiterated his desire to reunite with Insigne and asked whether it would be possible to lift the ban by the end of September. At that point, the market would be closed, but clubs would still be able to sign players on free transfers.
Insigne Has Two Other Suitors
As for the former Napoli captain, he is reportedly willing to accept a significant pay cut and reduce his salary to €2.5 million per year. But while Lazio might be his preferred destination, Insigne is also courted by Parma and Udinese, who are capable of signing him immediately. Therefore, the player is keen to know when the Biancocelesti would be able to register him.
