Maserati Marks Legacy with Historic A6 GCS/53 Return at 2025 Mille Miglia
Maserati is roaring back onto the roads of the famed Mille Miglia in 2025, combining past and future as part of its “Year of the Trident” centennial celebration. The storied automaker is fielding a rare 1953 Maserati A6 GCS/53 in the historic rally, a car that raced in five consecutive editions of the original Mille Miglia from 1953 to 1957.
Set to begin June 17 in Brescia, the 1,900-kilometer re-enactment winds through Italy’s most scenic towns, drawing over 400 classic cars from 29 nations. Among them, Maserati’s A6 GCS/53 – chassis no. 2043 – stands out not only for its elegant bodywork and engineering, but for its deep roots in the race’s history. Once driven by motorsport legend Luigi Musso, the vehicle is currently undergoing Maserati Classiche's Certification of Authenticity, underscoring its historic value and originality.
The A6 GCS/53 is joined by a trio of modern Maseratis – the GranCabrio 490, GranTurismo Trofeo, and Grecale Trofeo – all support cars decked out in bespoke liveries celebrating the brand's iconic Trident logo, which turns 100 this year.
In a nod to innovation, Maserati is also spotlighting its future with the GranCabrio Folgore, an electric prototype equipped with autonomous driving tech developed in partnership with Politecnico di Milano. This marks the car’s second appearance in Mille Miglia Green, pushing boundaries in sustainable and intelligent mobility.
From its 1926 Targa Florio victory with the Tipo 26 to a high-tech return in 2025, Maserati’s presence at the Mille Miglia embodies a rich continuum of racing DNA. As the A6 GCS/53 retraces its original route, the Trident’s legacy remains not only alive, but accelerating into its next century.
