Marcus Davenport injury update from Dan Campbell is good news for Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have finally provided at least some semblance of an update on the status of edge rusher Marcus Davenport.

Davenport suffered a chest injury in the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears, but the team had been mum on his status during the week, only revealing that Davenport would get second opinions on his injury.

That seemed to suggest something serious, but head coach Dan Campbell revealed he does not believe Davenport's injury is a season-ending issue.

He did confirm, however, that Davenport won't play on Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

"I don't see Davenport playing," Campbell revealed. "We're still trying to decide what to do. We've got some other tests back, we do not feel this is season-ending, but don't see him playing this week."

While it remains to be seen how long Davenport will be sidelined, the fact that he isn't going to be out the rest of the year is certainly good news.

With Davenport out this week, the Lions are going to lean more on Al-Quadin Muhammad, who has tallied one sack through two games.

“He had a really good camp and he just continues to do things for us,” Campbell said of Muhammad during the week. “He’s crafty, man. He’s strong, he’s got some explosiveness and, man, he plays hard. God, he plays hard.”

Detroit is hoping to get veteran Josh Paschal back soon as a some much-needed reinforcement, but his status remains up in the air, Campbell said on Saturday. Paschal is eligible to be activated off the NFI list in Week 5.
