Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Noni Madueke’s move to the Gunners can bring the very best out of the winger.
The 23-year-old is likely set for more game time with his club too, following an injury to Bukayo Saka, and Wright believes his summer move from Chelsea can unlock more from the youngster.
“In terms of competition for places, there’s a competition on that side now,” he said on the Stick to Football podcast.
“It’s now Madueke whose got the shirt, playing for Arsenal and England.”
Asked if he expected him to be as good as he has been, Wright responded: “Absolutely, yeah, because you see him at Chelsea and you’re seeing flashes. You’re not seeing a proper ‘right, that’s where you’re playing’. We didn’t see that.
“He got some stick from the Arsenal fans. But he’s brought competition into a place now which will make it even easier for the Arsenal fans.
“Now Saka’s out, he can put in performances like that. All you want from Noni Madueke is to continue doing that.
“Then, when Saka comes back, if he continues to play in that vein, then (there’s a decision).
“I think at Arsenal, in that dressing room, it’s exactly what he might need.”
