London City Lionesses have announced the news that Chinese international midfielder Shen Mengyu has left the club.
Shen arrived at Hayes Lane last summer after leaving former club Celtic. She brought an impressive CV with her to the English game after a successful spell north of the border. She won the SWPL 1 title, the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup and two Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cups in her time in Glasgow.
The midfielder went on to make 14 appearances for London City Lionesses in which she scored one goal. Shen helped The Pride to win the Barclays WSL2 title and secure their place in the Barclays Women’s Super League for the very first time.
With London City Lionesses now planning for their maiden season in the English top flight, it has been confirmed that Shen will not be staying at the club and she will be moving on to a new challenge in 2025/2026.
Shen is the 12th player to leave London City Lionesses this summer. The Pride are busy making adjustments to their squad to give themselves the best possible chance of Barclays Women’s Super League survival.
