Leeds United encouraged in Harry Wilson pursuit ahead of January window
Leeds United are preparing to revive their interest in Harry Wilson after receiving new encouragement that a deal with Fulham could finally materialise in January. The Wales international was close to moving to Elland Road on deadline day, only for the transfer to collapse at the last moment when Fulham withdrew permission for him to travel for a medical.
Why Wilson could leave Fulham
Wilson, now 28 and out of contract at the end of the season, is facing fresh uncertainty at Craven Cottage. Fulham brought in Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze on deadline day, both of whom are natural wingers and direct competition for Wilson’s favoured right-sided role. That decision surprised many within Leeds United, as it appeared to open the door for the Welshman’s departure.
Reports suggest Fulham remain open to a sale in January, while Wilson himself is believed to be prioritising regular football. With Wales pushing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, his need for consistent minutes has become even more pressing.
“For Harry Wilson, if Wales are to qualify for the World Cup next summer, he won’t want to be kicking his heels on the bench at Fulham,” journalist Pete O’Rourke told the Inside Track podcast.
“He’ll be looking to play regularly, and if that opportunity was to rise at Leeds United or elsewhere, it is something he might be interested in.”

Leeds’ situation under Daniel Farke
Leeds United currently sit 16th in the Premier League with four points from their opening four matches, having not won since the opening-day victory against Everton. Manager Daniel Farke was frustrated to miss out on Wilson in the summer, as he sought an inverted winger and set-piece specialist to strengthen his attacking options.
Speaking after the window closed, Farke stressed that he would not complain about the club’s failure to complete business but admitted his desire for transparency in recruitment.
“I’ve got a few principles with how I work and this is crucial for me. One principle is I like openness and transparency. I like to name it how I see it.
“The second principle is once a transfer window is closed and I can’t influence things anymore, you won’t hear one bad word or comment from me in any way. I’m pretty fortunate to be allowed to work in the business. My job is to adapt to the reality and work with what I’ve got.”
Silva stance on Wilson’s role
Despite the speculation, Fulham manager Marco Silva insists Wilson still has a part to play this season. The Portuguese coach pointed to the depth now available in wide areas following the arrivals of Chukwueze and Kevin.
“We believe the profiles of Chukwueze and Kevin will add to what we’ve been looking for in those areas of the pitch,” Silva told Fulham’s official website. “With Adama, Harry Wilson and Alex Iwobi, they’re going to be our solutions for the wide areas of the pitch. Him (Kevin) and Chukwueze are going to help us.”
That public backing may not alter the underlying reality for Wilson, who knows his long-term prospects at Fulham are uncertain. Leeds United, meanwhile, are expected to monitor developments closely as they weigh up a renewed approach in January.
