A federal district judge delayed ruling Monday on whether to continue to block President Trump’s proclamation meant to prevent international students from attending Harvard University.
The judge, Allison D. Burroughs, heard arguments from the lawyers for Harvard and the Trump Administration on Monday morning, and then said she would decide on the matter by next week. A temporary injunction against the president’s move remains in force until then.
About 5,000 international students are currently enrolled at Harvard. Another 2,000 recent graduates of the university are in the United States on visas that permit them to work temporarily.
Losing international students could deliver a disabling blow to the school’s finances, curriculum and identity.
