Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones just can't get out of his own way when it comes to the Micah Parsons trade with the Green Bay Packers.
As if we needed more evidence that Jones and the Cowboys made a massive blunder, Parsons has been lighting it up for the Packers over the first two weeks of the season with 1.5 sacks and 10 pressures and is clearly a game-changer for Green Bay's defense.
Yet, Jones is holding on to the opinion that trading Parsons gives the Cowboys the best chance to maximize the team's Super Bowl window.
No, seriously.
“This was the best way to maximize our chance to get a Super Bowl for Dak [Prescott]," Jones said of the trade, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
It's hard to believe he really thinks that, but we have no doubt Jones does.
You don't maximize anything by trading away your best player, and especially one who is one of the very best players in the NFL.
Now, if the Cowboys can flip one or both of those picks for a player who provides a massive upgrade, that could help Jones' statement, but only if that player helps get Dallas over the hump.
If they do pull off such a trade, the Cowboys aren't going to find anyone as talented as Parsons, who is the definition of a generational talent.
Those guys don't just grow on trees, Jerry.
Barring something miraculous happening, the Parsons trade will forever be a stain on the legacy of the Cowboys owner, and it might be the biggest one, which is a high bar to clear.
