India says it hit Pakistani military sites as reprisals continue

India's military said on Saturday it carried out airstrikes overnight on several Pakistani military installations and alleged a build-up of Pakistani troops along the border.

The strikes were launched in response to a series of alleged cross-border attacks by Pakistan involving drones and artillery, Indian army spokeswoman Vyomika Singh said at a briefing in New Delhi.

Precision-guided weapons were fired from Indian fighter jets at targets including command and control centres, radar installations and weapons depots, she added. No details were provided on the extent of the damage.

The Indian confirmation followed earlier claims by the Pakistani government that missile attacks had taken place. Islamabad reported that its forces had repelled Indian strikes on three military bases in Punjab province overnight, saying no damage had occurred.

In retaliation, Pakistan launched what it called Operation Bunyan Marsoos early on Saturday, targeting military sites in India. According to Pakistani state media, several Indian installations were hit and destroyed, though these claims have not been independently verified.

Wing Commander Singh said Pakistan was spreading "false claims" about its attacks on India.

She also said Pakistan has been observed moving its troops into forward areas near the border, "indicating offensive intent to further escalate the situation."

"Indian armed forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation provided it is reciprocated by the Pakistan military," she continued.
