There are a lot of perks to living in New York City. Not having easy access to Walmart isn't one of them. Thank goodness for online shopping, right? Otherwise, I'd be missing out on all the shockingly good fall clothes at the budget-friendly retailer.
Yes, you read that right. Good clothes — at Walmart! People are always genuinely surprised when I praise Walmart fashion, so I revel in the challenge of changing their minds. (Last year, I convinced more than a few of you to buy flattering jeans there, just saying.)
As part of my personal mission to mix up my wardrobe, I'm doing my seasonal shopping at places you can get cute, affordable clothes that you might not expect. I found some gems at JCPenney recently, and the selection at Walmart? Just as good! I still can't get over this cute barn coat that looks nearly identical to an L.L.Bean style I have that cost five times as much! And this perfect striped top? Major Saint James vibes! I've got more cute stuff to show you, so let's keep going.
Stripes are my absolute favorite "color," so I'll be wearing this shirt at least once a week.

This classic striped tee is a dead ringer for the J.Crew and Sezane styles I love. But guess what? It's a fraction of the price! I like that this one is soft and drapey, and it can be worn on its own or layered under a chunky cardigan. The 3/4-length sleeves also make it feel very French and fashion-forward. I'm partial to the navy and white stripes, but there are two other color combos to choose from.
Puffy sleeves aren't usually my thing, but these are just enough without overdoing it.

Sweater weather can't come fast enough if you ask me.

I live for a lightweight fall jacket, and this one instantly won me over.

The easiest way to embrace the rich British countryside trend that's popular this autumn? Throw on a barn coat. Trendy styles from Barbour can cost over $200, but this Walmart gem? Less than $40. A few notes: It's lightweight, so it's perfect for layering over a sweater on a cool fall day, but not ideal for a freezing winter situation. It's also designed to be oversized. I'm usually a small, so I expected to be swimming in a medium, but I actually liked the looser fit so I could comfortably wear a thick sweater underneath.
This is the perfect easy dress to throw on when you don't know what to wear.

The sizing on this dress was a little tricky for me. I don't like tighter styles that show every lump and bump, but shapeless sacks aren't my thing, either. I decided to go up one size from my usual, and I'm glad I did. The dress hangs nicely and just grazes my body. If you're looking for something more form-fitting, I recommend sizing down.
A two-for-one shirt? I'll take it!

Initially, I didn't even realize this sweater had the ruffle neckline attached — I thought it was styled with a separate shirt underneath for the photo. But imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find a cute sweater accented with a contrasting collar. As soon as I put it on, I got "rich mom" vibes, and I was sold. I'm planning to pair it with dark wash jeans and loafers for a preppy-inspired look.
Not everyone loves corduroy pants, but I sure do.

Have I mentioned my obsession with chocolate brown this season? I didn't even hesitate to add these cords to my cart. I like having pants that aren't jeans for winter, and I'm so excited to wear these with chunky sweaters when the weather gets cold. They fit perfectly in my normal size, and the length was just right with flats.
My one complaint? They arrived with a tiny hole in one leg. I ordered another pair and those arrived in perfect condition, but be on the lookout if you invest in a pair.
This is more leg than I usually like to show, so I'll probably pair this dress with tights or leggings.

I'm so torn about this dress. I love everything about it — the coziness, the color, the flattering shape — except that it's a bit too short for my liking. If you don't mind showing your gams, then I can't recommend this find highly enough. It's really cute, and no one would ever guess it's less than $30. If you're more modest like me, consider wearing it as a tunic with something covering your legs underneath.
It looks itchy, but it's not!

I'm a sucker for a good sweater, but I was on the fence with this one. Based on the pictures, it was either going to be super soft and snuggly or itchy beyond belief. Fortunately, it was the former! I tried this top on with just a bra underneath and my skin wasn't irritated at all — win!
I will say, however, that this top is very cropped. I'm not normally one to show off my tummy, but I made it work with high-waisted pants.
I already own a ridiculous number of sweaters, but I'd absolutely buy this oversized style in all the colors. It's that good.

When people say they love sweater weather, it's because of styles like this. You can pair this classic with anything — jeans, leggings, a dress — and it doesn't just look good, it actually feels like a hug. The oversized cut is somehow both forgiving and flattering, and the knit is chunky but not cheap. Of all the pieces I tried at Walmart, this is hands down my fave. I know I'll wear it a ton this season.
Not quite a matching set here — the fabrics just don't mesh — but still cute as separates.

In case it wasn't already obvious, I love sweaters. But every once in a while, I need a nice blouse for work that feels a bit dressier. This one definitely fits the bill, with a ruffled neckline and flounce sleeves that give it a feminine feel. It'll pair perfectly with black trousers, or you can wear it to dress up a pair of jeans.
Unlike the top, which is made from a cotton-blend fabric, this skirt is made from polyester that has a silkier, shinier finish. That means the pieces don't look great together, but they're stylish on their own. I loved the full, flowy cut of the skirt and could definitely see myself wearing it with ankle boots or even a cute kitten heel.
