High school football: UHSAA unveils first RPI rankings for 6A/5A/4A/3A/2A/1A

The UHSAA revealed its debut 2025 RPI rankings for high school football Monday afternoon, and if the previous five years are any indicator, it’s best to take the initial rankings with a grain of salt.

Last season, none of the teams ranked No. 1 in the initial rankings went on to win their respective state championships. That’s not likely to repeat itself based on who grabbed the No. 1 rankings.

The Top RPI seed in each classification heading into Week 6 are Corner Canyon, Fremont, Ridgeline, Cedar, San Juan, Beaver and Whitehorse. All seven should be in the hunt for state titles when November rolls around.

The RPI rankings are used to seed the playoffs after Week 10 and are based 45% on winning percentage, 45% on opponents’ winning percentage and 10% on opponents’ opponents winning percentage. This is the fifth year the formula is using a 45-45-10 calculation.

In the latest Deseret News weekly rankings, the top team in each classification are Corner Canyon (6A), West (5A), Ridgeline (4A), Morgan (3A), San Juan (2A), Duchesne (1A) and Rich (1A 8-player).
