A day after highlighting the positive end of Roma’s injury spectrum—the impending return of winger Leon Bailey—we must once again confront the tough reality of following this club: relentless injuries. After losing to Torino last weekend, Roma faces a crucial round four fixture, which happens to be the Derby della Capitale, the first of the Gian Piero Gasperini era.

With Roma struggling for goals at the moment, Gasperini’s backline has had to do the heavy lifting through the first few rounds of play. While the attack will round into shape sooner or later, Gasp’s defense may be short-handed as the Giallorossi square off against their Stadio Olimpico flatmates.

According to multiple sources, center-back Mario Hermoso (calf) and wing-back Wesley (flu-like symptoms) are questionable for the game against Lazio on Sunday. Wesley, a big-ticket signing from Flamengo, has impressed with his speed and Brazilian flair, while Hermoso, who returned in August after a winter loan at Bayer Leverkusen, has found new confidence under Gasperini, starting all three of Roma’s matches this season. So, even though the injuries and illnesses themselves are minor, the players are not—they have been pivotal pieces through the first three rounds of play.

In their absence, look for Devyne Rensch to start at wing-back, while Hermoso’s absence could pave the way for 22-year-old Daniele Ghilardi to make his club debut.
