Hall of Famer from Yankees rival has praise for Brian Cashman that fans won't agree with

The New York Yankees had one of the more intriguing offseasons out of any team in Major League Baseball a year ago. Losing Juan Soto didn't help things, but instead of the Yankees stressing about that and not trying to improve, they went out and added Cody Bellinger, Max Fried and multiple other players.

Many of those players have also played well for the Yankees, which is why Brian Cashman deserves a bit more respect than some have given him.

Of course, there aren't many Yankees fans out there who care much about what Cashman does unless he's winning a World Series every season. For an organization that's built on winning, it isn't unfair to suggest that, either.

Yankees' Brian Cashman remains under fire

Until Cashman wins a World Series over the next year or so, fans will rightfully question the moves he makes.

But for others, including Hall of Famer Jim Palmer, he doesn't believe the Yankees organization and Cashman should be criticized for what they did over the past year. Instead, he said that Cashman deserves to be the General Manager of the Year.

“I think Cashman should be GM of the year,” Palmer said, according to Randy Miller of NJ.com. “He gave the Yankees everything they need. He got them position players, pitchers. They have the starters.”

Not all of the Yankees' moves have worked out, but that's unfair to blame on Cashman. There isn't a team in baseball that's had every move work out.

For the most part, he's done what he's needed to do.

When healthy, the Yankees are as good as any team in baseball on paper. A big part of that might’ve been the decision not to give Soto everything he wanted.

“That worked out for the Yankees,” Palmer said, per Miller. “They wouldn’t have the same team paying Soto $50 million a year.”
