Gigio Donnarumma stars on City debut in Manchester derby win

Gianluigi Donnarumma went straight into the Manchester City starting XI for the Manchester derby and was excellent as his new side beat Manchester United 3-0. Interestingly, he replaced James Trafford, who himself had also been signed this summer to be the first choice keeper but has now seemingly been replaced by the Italian.

He kept a clean sheet on debut, including a ridiculous save low to his right from Bryan Mbeumo. He was also really good at claiming crosses and took control of his area very well. Pep Guardiola also pointed out that Donnarumma was also very dominant in guarding his net during corners making sure United did not hamper his clean sheet on debut.

While the questions will still remain as to whether his ball-playing is up to the necessary level for a Guardiola side, the fact remains that Donnarumma is one of the top keepers in the world and can decide games on his own at the Ethiad.
