German police seize kilos of drugs with street value of €20 million

Police in Germany seized hundreds of kilograms of stimulant drug Captagon that they found in a vegetable shop in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, officials said on Sunday.

An investigation revealed that pallets of oil-yielding fruit were being delivered to a vegetable shop in Landsberg which could be hiding drugs. Officials seized more than 20 suspicious pallets on Saturday, police and prosecutors said in a joint statement.

They have forensically examined four of the pallets so far and found they contained approximately 300 kilograms of Captagon in the form of about 1.7 million tablets, with a street value of more than €20 million ($22 million).

"This is likely one of the largest single seizures of this substance in Germany," the police and prosecutors said.

Investigations are being conducted against the suspects who are not currently in Germany, they said.
