Francisco Lindor Sends Clear Message After Mets’ Fifth Straight Loss

The New York Mets ran into Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale at the worst possible time. They desperately needed a spark amid their four-game losing streak, but the 2024 NL Cy Young Award-winner didn't falter.

Sale tossed 8.2 scoreless innings while Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso were a combined 0-for-12 with five strikeouts. The Mets lost 5-0, extending their losing streak to five games, which is their longest since May 20-25 of last season.

Sale allowed five hits while notching seven strikeouts and just one walk across 116 pitches. Lindor sounded off about New York's struggles postgame, via SNY.

"I can definitely get better. I can get on base for Pete, for Soto, for the rest of the guys. I can run the bases better," he admitted.

"At the end of the day, it's tough to win games when your leadoff guy is not getting on base," he continued.

Lindor, of course, is the Mets' leadoff hitter.

New York's lead over the Philadelphia Phillies atop the NL East has now shrunk to one game, and it's a half-game behind the Chicago Cubs for the NL's best record. Wednesday's defeat clinched a series loss, and it will try to avoid getting swept for the second straight series on Thursday.

Right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes (7-3, 2.87 ERA) will start for the Mets against Braves right-hander Spencer Strider (1-5, 4.35 ERA).

After that game, New York will continue its road trip against the Phillies before hosting the Braves. Then, it will hit the road again to play the Pittsburgh Pirates.
