Former Colorado Buffaloes football star Shilo Sanders may or may not have played his last NFL snap, which was in the preseason right before he punched Buffalo Bills tight end Zach Davidson and got ejected.
USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer was optimistic that Sanders’ NFL career might not be over in the immediate aftermath of his release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in late August.
“But his NFL hopes are still alive. He could get signed to the team’s practice squad Wednesday. Or he could catch on with another team that’s a better fit,” Schrotenboer wrote.
Pro Football Network’s Abhinand Variar claims the Philadelphia Eagles have been “identified as a logical landing spot for Sanders” and made the case for Coach Prime’s middle son on the defending Super Bowl LIX champions.
“Fangio’s track record offers reason for optimism. Just last year, he saw potential in Zack Baun, a player who transformed from an afterthought in New Orleans into a Pro Bowler and All-Pro in Philadelphia,” Variar wrote.
“While Sa͏nders would͏ not ͏immediately step into a starting role on one of the league’s most formidable defences, the developmental environment could ͏prove invaluable. Practicing daily͏ with͏ established veterans,͏ under the ͏guidance of Fa͏ngio͏, would offer ͏him the chance to refine his raw skills and regain͏ ͏confidence.
“With a culture and system that has ability to unlock overlooked talent, the Eagles represent something different. For a player who has already faced long odds, that might be the fresh start he needs.”
By that token, the Eagles are a good fit for anyone. There hasn’t been a credible peep about Shilo finding a new NFL home since his release, and his reaction to it – specifically mentioning talents outside of football – points to Sanders potentially expecting no other chances.
We’ll see if Coach Prime’s NFL connections could open one more door for Shilo. As it stands, Deion’s two sons aren’t expected to make much of, if any, impact at the next level.
