After the Cleveland Cavaliers got blown out in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, owner Dan Gilbert sent a message to Cavaliers fans.
"Hey Cavs fans, yes it was an ugly one, but we’ve been here before," Gilbert wrote on X. "Time to get 3 in a row, 2 of them coming at home. Let’s start with Game 5 on Tuesday. #Believeland."
The Cavaliers are down 3-1 to the Pacers. They are one loss away from being eliminated from the playoffs despite being the No. 1 seed in the East.
And to make matters worse, Cleveland All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell hurt his ankle in Game 4 and didn't play in the second half.
Despite the odds being against the Cavaliers, Gilbert is still confident his team can come back from the 3-1 series deficit like the 2016 Cleveland squad did in the 2016 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
However, that team had LeBron James on it, something fans reminded Gilbert of after his post on Sunday.
"You don’t have the greatest player ever anymore, start packing your bags," one fan said.
"Boy you don’t have LeBron this time," another fan said.
James led the Cavaliers to the 2016 championship after being down 3-1 to the Warriors in the NBA Finals. Cleveland is the only team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 series deficit in the NBA Finals.
The leading scorer in NBA history, James plays for the Los Angeles Lakers now. While Gilbert still believes in this year's Cavaliers team, many fans don't think Cleveland can come back from a 3-1 deficit without James.
"Prime Bron ain’t walking through that door this time around," one fan said.
"LeBron isn’t walking through that door," another fan wrote.
Game 5 between the Cavaliers and Pacers is on Tuesday. It will be intriguing to see how Cleveland plays at home after getting embarrassed in Game 4 on national television.
