As NBA free agency continues, most of the big names have already come off the board as they were signed withing the first two days of free agency.

Despite this, there are still many players available who could play a key role for a contending team next season and among them is former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook is coming off a great season with the Denver Nuggets where he was able to revitalize his career after a couple of disappointing seasons with both the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.

The veteran guard is still a great scorer and he proved to be a key piece to Denver’s success last season, though he is unlikely to return there this summer.

There have been many teams linked to Westbrook thus far in free agency but Bleacher Report’s Timothy Rapp believes that the Detroit Pistons are the best fit for him.

“The Detroit Pistons lost Dennis Schroder this offseason and have a need for a backup point guard. Westbrook would bring plenty of experience to a young, up-and-coming roster that reached the playoffs last season. In a backup role, he could be very valuable for the Pistons as they look to build on last season’s impressive leap,” Rapp wrote.

Rapp makes a great point about the Pistons needing a veteran guard on their roster behind Cade Cunningham after losing Schroder to the Sacramento Kings this offseason.

Westbrook would be a solid fit off the bench for the Pistons next season as he would give them a reliable scorer and veteran presence to a primarily young team.

Of course, the Pistons proved last season that they are going to be a threat in the Eastern Conference with Cunningham, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren leading the way and by adding Westbrook, they would better their depth to make a potential run at a title next season.
