There was considerable doubt surrounding Donovan Mitchell's status for Game 5 on Tuesday after the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar was unable to finish Game 4 due to an ankle sprain.
Mitchell played through the injury in Game 5, though, as the six-time All-Star went off for a game-high 35 points, nine rebounds, an assist, four steals, one block and four triples in 38 minutes of play.
It still wasn't enough for the Cavs, though, as their season came to an end on Tuesday following their 114-105 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
An understandably dejected Mitchell spoke to reporters after the game, sharing his heartbreaking reaction to the season-ending loss.
"We took a step in the right direction, but we didn't win a championship, and we didn’t complete the end goal," he said.
"No. There’s no moral victories here. We just didn’t get the job done. There’s really nothing else to be said."
This is Mitchell's third year with the Cavs. He led the team to the best regular season record in the Eastern Conference with 64 wins. Despite that feat, however, Cleveland was eliminated in the second round yet again.
In Mitchell's three-year tenure with the Cavaliers, the team has failed to get past the East semis.

At this point, Mitchell and the Cavs have no other choice but to live through this heartbreak and use this painful loss to motivate them to do better next season.
For now, though, Cleveland and its fans will be in a state of mourning.
