Lopes vs. Silva took place Sept. 13 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. Diego Lopes (27-7) and Jean Silva (16-3) squared off in the main event clash. The fight aired live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Round 1

Lopes looks bigger than Silva, but not as bad as I thought. Both men out in orthodox but Silva shifts stances immediately, and back. He does a lot of that. Silva with a front kick that lands to forehead. Not with power, but lands it. Lopes and Silva exchanging low kicks. Silva grabbing Lopes’s hands, which is interesting.

Lopes keeps kicking the calf and Silva returns fire with his own and another front kick. Spinning kick from Silva misses but Lopes grabs the back and dumps Silva to the mat. Lope gets a hook in and Silva tries to spin, allowing Lopes to move to the mount. Bad news for Silva right from the start.

Lopes working elbows and Silva is cut on the top of the head. Silva trying to scramble but Lopes bodying him right now. Big shots and Silva cannot get free. Lopes with big elbows. These 12-6 elbows are mean! Lopes is very high. Silva talkign to him but Lopes just pounds him. Silva has no ability to escape this. Silva defending OK, but he’s getting big brothered here.

And Silva breaks free! Rolls and Lopes went for a triangle, but Silva reversed and got to his feet. And Silva lands a nice front kick. Lopes gonna go back to the ground soon, I expect. Lopes the one closing distance now. Silva lands a left hook. Lopes not rushing, staying patient. Good left hook to the body from Silva. And a right upstairs. He is clearly a much better striker.

Round 2

The dynamics are clear: this is striker vs. grappler. Early lead for Lopes but a lot of fight to go.

Both men pumping the jab early and Silva smacks the body with his right hand. Silva back on the attack this round, backing Lopes up. He’s playing hands and clubs in with a nice pair of rights. He has so many tools and great feints. Lopes should change levels.

Nice left hook from Silva around the guard and now they’re chatting in there. Silva getting very confident with his combos. Lopes lands a nice shot inside. But Silva eats it and works him over at range. Nice elbow from Silva. Lopes has a chin on him because Silva is hitting him with a wide variety of awesome stuff and Lopes is taking it.

Big right hand from Silva lands clean and backs Lopes up for a moment. Then a flying knee. Lopes might be hurt because Silva cracked him again! and Again! Silva with a spinning back up elbow. He’s being very silly in there now, feeling himself.

Credit to Lopes, he took all that and he’s still in there. Looks a little slower, but he’s pressing in and chopping the leg. Steady performance. Silva overpunches and now Lopes gets to the back and just falls on him down to the mat. Silva in better position though and starts standing. Lopes with a mat return but a scramble. And then Lopes big brothers him down. That was cool. But Silva scrambles up and tags Lopes. Lopes fires back! Silva getting very stupid in there but he’s a wild man.

OH!!!!! Lopes lands a spinning elbow as Silva flung himself wildly and he’s down!!!!! Silva is in trouble and Lopes is on him!!! Big shots! And that’s it!!!! Silva is POURING blood. And his orbital might be broken too. Silva is despondent but that was a fine stoppage.
