Deion Sanders drops Shedeur Sanders truth bomb on breakout Colorado Buffaloes QB Ryan Staub

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders revealed that Ryan Staub and Shedeur Sanders have had contact ahead of what’s shaping up to be the former’s first start since the 2023 season’s final game.

Staub only started that game because Sanders was injured. Getting the call to be QB1 in Houston against Willie Fritz’s Cougars was fully earned during a 31-7 win over the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens this past Saturday.

Coach Prime revealed that Shedeur called to congratulate Staub on presumably earning the start against UH, though Deion refused to confirm who would be under center this Friday and undermined ESPN reporter Pete Thamel’s sources who said Staub was starting.

“He’s talked to (Shedeur Sanders) as well. He’s called him. They conversed. First of all, you gotta understand that Staub is a lovable dude. Everybody who’s played here previously have reached out to him and congratulated him. They did something to let them know how proud they are. He’s always been a stand-up guy, no matter who’s starting. He’s always been there in support. He’s not gonna be one of those guys where someone else is starting and he’s on the bench mad. He’s not built like that,” Coach Prime said at a Tuesday press conference.

“He’s gonna be there and support and make sure you’re prepared and make sure the scout team is prepared. He’s gonna give you everything he has when he gets the opportunity to practice. I think he was even giving signals last week. Going from giving signals to getting in the game, like c’mon man that doesn’t happen. This is a real life story happening right before your eyes. Hats off to him because he’s the ultimate teammate. Those are the type of guys we’re looking for.”

One can deduce that Shedeur holds Staub in high esteem, since they’re still talking to this day. That undoubtedly affects Coach Prime’s mindset, even if he wouldn’t outright admit that.

While Shedeur once pushed hard for Julian Lewis, things have rapidly changed and the “Grown QB” has embraced the twists and turns. And to be fair, Shedeur did, after all, concede that whoever was chosen would be considered “family” by Coach Prime.

Based on how Deion has spoken about Staub, even in front of FOX Sports cameras live on air, it’s safe to say that’s happened with the Stevenson Ranch, California, native.
