Cowboys Blue Stakes Claim To Home-Run Role with Dak

Dallas Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue is ready to do what it takes to prove his worth in his rookie campaign.

We often hear about NFL coaches and their love for position flex, and Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer wants his running backs to be versatile.

Texas Longhorn Jaydon Blue heard his name called in the fifth round and will bring one key element to the Cowboys' run game that they haven't had in years - genuine home-run speed.

Boasting a 4.38 40-yard dash, when Blue hits the accelerator, he scoots downfield in a hurry, and while Dallas fans gravitate to Jaydon's blistering speed, he brings a whole lot more to the offense than just that.

In a chat with Dallascowboys.com, Blue is speaking out and revealed he's ready to do it all.

"I'll say the versatility, the home run hitter," Blue said. "The guy that can take it to the house at any moment, a pass play, a run, or anything like that. I'm just willing to do whatever to help the team get to that level."

Blue's speed out of the backfield is key here, but with Schottenheimer wanting his backs to be able to catch as well, Jaydon can do that too, posting 56 receptions for 503 yards and seven touchdowns in his three college seasons. Oh, and he averaged nine yards per reception.

A key ingredient for rookies to survive roster cuts is versatility, and while Blue's value will be in the run game, his ability to be used as a receiver and possibly on special teams as well is a big feather in his cap.

Granted, with Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams ahead of him, Blue - who at 5-9 and 195 might not be ready for a full load as an NFL back - will have to show he's worthy of being a part of Schottenheimer's offense.

And that long journey begins now. ... with hoped-for home runs to come.
