Commanders Fans Wonder Why ‘Final' Offseason Move Isn’t Done

The Washington Commanders, since Dan Quinn and Adam Peters took over at the start of last offseason, have had nothing but positive vibes and things going smoothly.

This offseason, that has been shattered, as Terry McLaurin has been seeking a new contract and, as of now, has yet to receive it. 

And he's reportedly not thrilled.

After already holding out of mandatory minicamp, many wonder if "Scary Terry" will do the same when training camp rolls around next month, and in truth, fans hope that the contract situation is fixed by then.

If it isn't, things might get sticky. … and it’s all leaving fans wondering why it’s not done.

For ESPN's Aaron Schatz, Washington's final offseason move is an easy one: extend its star receiver.

"McLaurin has been one of the league's best receivers for years, but he never reached his highest potential because of poor quarterback play prior to 2024," Schatz writes. "That's not a problem now with Jayden Daniels in town, and McLaurin ranked fifth in DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement) last season.

"However, McLaurin's current contract voids after the 2025 season, and the Commanders need to fix that. He skipped a recent mandatory minicamp in hopes that it would prod the Commanders into coming closer to the number he wants on the next contract."

With Terry expected to fetch a contract that will at least start at $30 million per annum, it is unclear whether the Commanders are willing to invest that sort of money.

However, given their approach this offseason with the trades for Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil, that is the definition of all-in. So, why would the franchise not keep its best offensive player, not named Jayden Daniels?

It is confusing, but this is the NFL landscape, and there aren't many who don't think Terry and Washington won't agree on a new deal.

But the longer it goes, the more skeptical and confused we become.
