Colorado Buffaloes great and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Shilo Sanders might be on the cusp of getting another chance in the NFL.
According to the league's transactions wire, Sanders worked out for the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday. There was no reported deal between the two sides, though.
This is the first workout Sanders has received since he was cut by the Buccaneers before cutdown day. Sanders appeared in all three preseason games with the Bucs before getting cut.
Sanders' preseason ended on a low note after he was ejected from the final exhibition contest after throwing a punch at a Buffalo Bills tight end.
"You can't throw punches in this league -- that's inexcusable," Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said. "They're going to get you every time. You've got to grow from that."
There was a thought that the Bucs might bring Sanders back on the practice squad, but that never came to fruition.
In his three preseason contests with the Bucs, Sanders posted a 47.2 grade in coverage and a tackling grade of 27.4, according to Pro Football Focus.
His overall grade landed at a 39.1.
Recently, Sanders' father and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders touched on what his son might do if his NFL career doesn't pan out.
“I was gonna go down that avenue once upon a time,” Deion said of acting on the Colorado Football Coaches Show. “I think that’s the avenue that... or streaming... that Shilo’s gonna go down, because he has that gift, man.”
“You always want to have other interests that you’re interested in,” Shilo said last month. “I’ve always done that my whole life playing football, with music, acting, modeling.
"I’m well-versed, and my parents make sure of that, so I’ve been prepared for anything that happen, cause you never know what could happen," he added.
It wasn't looking good for Shilo's career, but perhaps this is the foot in the door he needs to get his career on track.
