Skylar Lach scored in overtime to lift Middlebury to a 13-12 win over Colby in the NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse semifinals Friday in Salem, Virginia.
Colby, making its first appearance in the semifinals, ends the season 17-4. Middlebury, the three-time defending champion, improves to 20-1 and will play for another title Sunday against the winner of Friday’s other semifinal between Tufts and Gettysburg.
Middlebury also beat the Mules in the regular season, 12-11, on April 5.
The Panthers took a two-goal lead when Hope Shue scored with 3:33 left in regulation. Gennie Littlejohn scored with 2:43 remaining to pull the Mules within one, and Gisele Uva tied it with 17 seconds left.
Julia Jardina, who set Colby’s record for career goals earlier in the tournament, finish with five goals and an assist. Ainsley Dion added two goals, while Kins Helmer had a goal and two assists. Stella Regan and Julia Maimonis also scored.
Jullian Kane and Gigi Peloso each made three saves for Colby.
Hope Shue had six goals and two assists for Middlebury. Caroline Adams added three goals, and Maggie Coughlin and Lach each had two. Elizabeth Savage stopped six shots.
