Chicago Sky Coach Reveals Update After Kamilla Cardoso Leaves Team

The Chicago Sky currently own a 3-10 record during the 2025 WNBA season. This places them 11th in the league standings and fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Second-year center Kamilla Cardoso, who made the All-Rookie team in 2024, has put together another strong campaign this season. She is second on the Sky in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Unfortunately, Cardoso will be temporarily leaving the Sky as she plays for her home country Brazil in the Americup Tournament in late June and early July. She will depart after Tuesday evening's contest against the Los Angeles Sparks.

First-year head coach Tyler Marsh will be forced to adjust in Cardoso's absence by either moving 2024 WNBA All-Star forward Angel Reese to center or inserting 11-year veteran Elizabeth Williams in the starting lineup.

Fortunately, either of these moves will only be temporary, as Marsh provided an update before Tuesday's game about when Chicago expects Cardoso to be back after Americup.

"Marsh expects Cardoso to return for the Lynx game on 7/6. #Skytown," Chicago State of Mind Sports reported.

This update means that Cardoso should only miss two WNBA games, which will be back-to-back road contests against the 7-6 Golden State Valkyries and 4-10 Sparks.

Unfortunately, the Sparks have a stellar duo of post players in Dearica Hamby, who is averaging 16.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in 2025, and Azurá Stevens, who is contributing 13.4 points and 8.8 boards per contest.

In Cardoso's absence, Elizabeth Williams could see an increase from her 17.2 minutes per game (via Pro Basketball Reference). She is fresh off a 16-point, 5-rebound performance against the Atlanta Dream, both of which were season bests.
