The Chicago Bears are going to be very shorthanded on the defensive side of the ball for their Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field.
According to the Bears' inactives for Monday night, defensive backs Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon have been ruled out.
Gordon was a late addition to the injury report this week with a hamstring issue, while Johnson started the week on the injury report and turned in all limited sessions as he dealt with groin and calf injuries.
In addition, linebacker T.J. Edwards has officially been ruled out, which was expected after he was listed as doubtful before kickoff with a hamstring injury.
This is obviously a significant blow for the Bears, who now have to defend Justin Jefferson without their No. 1 cornerback in Johnson, and losing both Gordon and Edwards will be tough to overcome, as well.
So, when can the Bears expect all three players back?
Here's what we know.
Jaylon Johnson injury update
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Johnson went through pre-game warm-ups but simply wasn't healthy enough to give it go.
Schultz adds that Johnson "needs at least another week" to get right.
Kyler Gordon injury update
There is no real update on when we can expect Gordon to return from injury.
He had been battling the hamstring injury since the end of the preseason. He was a late addition to the injury report on Sunday, which is a troubling sign for his availability next week.
T.J. Edwards injury update
Edwards wasn't close to playing this week, as the doubtful tag would suggest.
He did not log a single limited practice and hasn't been on the practice field for over a week. There is no update on his timeline to return, but there is serious doubt by default about his status for Week 2.
