Chelsea’s top rated star is in the red zone already dominating duels against physical Brentford

Chelsea were not good against Brentford last night, and while they got a point in the end, they could easily have lost.

One player they could thank for getting a point – and almost stealing three – was Moises Caicedo. The midfielder is usually among our best players, and once again he had a good game. He had 4 interceptions, 4 tackles and was the team’s most accurate passer.

He didn’t inject spark in the same Cole Palmer did on his arrival, but Caicedo scored a brilliant goal and was otherwise effective in eventually helping turn the game around. The world’s media loved his efforts.

Moises Caicedo – 9

Not the ideal preparation for Caicedo coming into this one, but that didn’t matter for the Ecuadorian. Plenty of tackles and interceptions. We know he can do that – he does it every week. What he does not do every week is what we saw on 85 minutes. World-class.

Moises Caicedo – 7

Up for the physical battle, without being the star tackler he often is. Instead, he was Chelsea’s star attacker, coming up with the goods late on with a ferocious strike. He was unfortunate it did not prove the winner.

While the Daily Mirror had this:

Moises Caicedo 8 – Was one of the better players in a difficult first half before stepping up to thunder home what it looked like would be the winning goal.

We weren’t sure about Caicedo playing last night – he had one day of training after returning from international duty, and is an essential player for next week’s games against Man U and Bayern Munich. But we would have been lost without him.

We desperately need Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia back, and Andrey Santos fit and firing. Caicedo was supposed to play less this season, not more. It’s a real worry.
