The Boston Celtics are in a tough spot going into next season, but their long-term outlook hinges on their superstar.
Over the past couple of weeks, the Celtics have been one of the most active teams in the trade market. While free agency hasn’t led to many splashes for Boston, Brad Stevens has stolen the headlines by sending Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to new teams.
Looking ahead to next season, the Celtics will be without their starting point guard and center from the title team, with veteran Al Horford’s departure expected to become official at some point in the near future. While those losses will sting for the Celtics, they still have Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.
Although those two probably won’t be enough to keep Boston in contention next season, that could all change when Jayson Tatum joins those two on the floor again in 2026-27. Recently, Tatum gave a peek into his recovery from the torn Achilles that ended his season in the second round against the New York Knicks.

His torn Achilles is going to be a storyline in his career moving forward, but if he continues to rehab well, it might not be much of a problem for his long-term outlook.
While it feels like Tatum has been in the league forever, he’s still only 27 and has a bright future ahead. As long as all continues to go well in his recovery, Tatum should soon be back on the floor as the Celtics’ star.
