In what was billed as a “Once In A Lifetime” showdown, Canelo Alvarez suffered a unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford last night (Sat., Sept. 13, 2025) inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada (watch highlights). With the defeat, Canelo surrendered his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super Middleweight titles to the pound-for-pound king.

Following the setback, Alvarez faced the media during the Crawford vs. Canelo post-fight press conference and offered a candid reaction to the upset.

“I always tried, all the rounds I tried,” Canelo said. “But you need to accept it, sometimes you cannot go. I never thought about [him beating me] because I cannot think that way. I tried my best tonight…. We knew Crawford is a great fighter and I did what I was supposed to do, right? I tried to do everything, trained really hard. He deserves all of the credit. I tried my best and I could not figure the style.”

When asked what aspect of Crawford’s game gave him the most trouble — speed, power, or technique — the Mexican superstar didn’t hesitate.

“Everything. He has everything,” Canelo concluded.

The loss snaps Alvarez’s six-fight winning streak and leaves him without a major world title for the first time since 2015. Despite the disappointment, the 35-year-old fan favorite is expected to cash a purse north of $100 million, softening the blow of defeat.

As for what’s next? Canelo says he’ll take time to be with his family before making any decisions. But given the stakes, the venue, and the attention on this historic clash, a possible rematch might be at stake.
